    Hail the Mockummercial

Prediction (I'll have others for 2007 later in the week): the mockummercial will become a big thing next year, as more and more marketers get the inspiration to taunt their competitors via YouTube with nicely produced parodies of popular commercials. Thanks to AdFreak for calling out this particular mockummercial titled "Slob Evolution," a sendup on the Dove "Evolution" commercial. What's most remarkable are the production values, which are quite high. Reminds me of our recent post about the role that hate plays in the formation of community. It can inspire great work, too (well, sometimes).

But, by the way, we need to ask: who are the makers of the Dove mockucommercial taunting? I'm sure they are taunting Dove, not the "ugly," as one angry AdFreak reader suggested. But whenever you raise the sword -- even if it's in jest -- you are bound to draw blood. And that's something that all marketers need to remember.
