The other day I joked about Wal-Mart soon becoming the fourth largest city in the U.S. (should happen in the next few years). Now I hear that Google has its own fleet of shuttle buses for employees in the Bay Area. Says The New York Times:
"...32 shuttle buses equipped with comfortable leather seats and wireless Internet access. Bicycles are allowed on exterior racks, and dogs on forward seats, or on their owners’ laps if the buses run full....
'We are basically running a small municipal transit agency', said Marty Lev, Google’s director of security and safety, who oversees the program."
Talk about privatization. Hard for a munipal transit authority to compete something like this, especially in a place where public transportation is an afterthought.

In bangalore India, EVERY company over 100 employees runs their own shuttle bus service for their employees. In fact WIPRO an Infosys have probably each between 700 - 900 buses shuttling their employees. Simply because the infrastructure is poorly equipped to handle their employees getting to work on time.
