Still on a nostalgic bent this morning, and I'm remembering a gorgeous tune that I associate with my son's toddler years. He was getting into the Wiggles, and one popular episode featured Tim Finn of the great 80's kiwi band, Split Enz. Tim sang "Six Months in a Leaky Boat." Here's the original.
While we're on the subject of the 70's, my four-year old reminded me of Deee-Lite's 1990 retro beat. "Not vicious or malicious/ Just de-lovely and delicious."
This is possibly one of the best covers ... ever. The original -- by bubblegum rock legend, The Foundations -- was great (see below). Alison Krauss's version is sublime.
So, Jon Bon Jovi is the mentor for this week's round of American Idol. I had to suppress a chuckle when I heard this. I have nothing against Bon Jovi. In fact, I feel a special kinship with him. Many a time my grandmother used to call me Jo Bonni, which is Bon Jovi in reverse. (Yep, that's me -- Bon Jovi in reverse). But I was reminded of that great Conan O'Brien skit a few years ago when Triumph ("The Insult Comic Dog") interviewed Bon Jovi before a concert. Best moment: when Triumph asks Bon Jovi about his turn as an actor in Vampires: Los Muertos.
