    The model for web 1.0 was pretty simple; the concepts around ecommerce are very similar to most retail businesses.

    I think that social media will teach the next generation of people in business what it really means to really follow some good marketing principles. For example Dell is a great example of a company that had to come around to using the web to listen to customers and conduct a dialogue, the marketplace, customers and shareholders demanded the company listened, and now Dell is actively engaged in dialogue the company is reaping great rewards.

    As you suggest companies will struggle and in the process gain competitive advantages.
