I frequently write and talk about the general DIY trend. Here's one for the archives: MyMaps, from Google, which enables you to customize your own Google maps.
The problem with DIY is the burden it puts on the user. But Google is hip to this -- a Google blog today assured consumers that the service is "so easy even a caveman could do it." Elinor Mills at CNET took the bait, and won points for modesty. She admits that Google "makes mashups easy, even for me."
