I should have posted on this subject last Sunday, but better late than never. The theme of last week's New York Times Magazine was the future of cities, and a number of articles are worth checking out. But if you are short on time, just check out Deborah Solomon's one-page profile of Enrique Penalosa, the former mayor of Bogota, Colombia. Penalosa's Bogota is seen as a model for future planning, which might surprise people -- most people, I am guessing -- who have a dim view of the city.
With the oil crisis and global warming looming large on the minds of planners and citizens, cities are making a big comeback. We've been thinking a lot about this at TCG and hope we can get involved somehow.
